Over the weekend of 4 and 5 August 2018, Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents responded to two 911 calls from illegal aliens. On Saturday evening, as excessive heat blanketed the area, agents were summoned to an area west of Tucson. They found two Salvadorian men who had entered the United States illegally. Exhausted and dehydrated, the two sat down, called 911 and waited for the Border Patrol to come pick them up. One of the men was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The next evening agents in the same sector responded to a 911 call and found three men and one woman from Guatemala and another man from Mexico. All of them had entered the country illegally and were attempting to evade the Border Patrol, but when things got tough they dialed 911 and summoned rescue.
Every individual in both groups was medically evaluated. As with all Border Patrol operations, the full cost of these rescues was borne by American taxpayers.
These were not isolated incidents. These were not unusual operations. In 2016, the last year for which full statistics could be located, the Border Patrol performed in excess of 4000 such rescues.
In fact, the scope of Border Patrol rescue operations on the southern border is so great that a special unit exists to carry them out. The USBP Special Operations Group, Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue Unit (USBP SOG BORSTAR) contains more than 246 agents who are trained and certified for advanced search and rescue operations. These agents are located along the Southwest border and are on call and available to respond to high-risk emergent situations for extended periods. In addition to the resources dedicated to this unit the Border Patrol trains all agents in emergency life saving procedures and has 1200 emergency medical technicians (EMT’s) on staff.
All of this to ensure that illegal immigrants crossing the border without authorization are safe. The Border Patrol, by virtue of its own submissions to Congress, does not track the cost of these initiatives.
Join Sam Faddis on Ground Truth as he discusses the insanity of taxpayer-funded initiatives to help illegals make it safely into this nation, a network of satellite rescue beacon towers built by the US government in the desert for those illegals who can’t get a cell signal, “catch and release,” and much more.
We don’t just need a wall on the southern border. We need to restore common sense and logic. We’ve turned the Border Patrol into Uber for illegals, and you’re paying for it.
