Immigration laws are supposed to protect American lives and protect the jobs of American workers.
Immigration: The real Third Rail of politics
As I have often noted, immigration is not a single issue but a singular issue that profoundly impacts nearly every challenge and threat the United States faces today.
So many journalists continually reminded about the "Latino Vote" and what they believe that candidates for elected office must do to win that vote, yet they blithely ignore that in dividing up American voters by ethnicity, race or religion, they are engaged in an insidious form of profiling! Is it any different to predict how members of a particular racial or ethnic group will likely vote from predicting how members of a particular racial or ethnic group will conduct themselves in other areas such as crime?
Meanwhile, even as so many journalists are quick to claim that the only way to win the votes of Latino voters is to support sweeping amnesty programs for illegal aliens the Pew Hispanic center just released a study they conducted that indicates that the three most important issues for Latino voters are education, the economy (and jobs) and healthcare. Immigration came in fifth in that survey.
If the journalists and politicians were to speak honesty about immigration, all voters of every race, religion and ethnicity would understand that the goals of the immigration laws are to protect American lives and protect the jobs of American workers.
The massive influx of illegal aliens has enabled criminals including members of transnational gangs including MS-13, the Russian Mob, members of Asian Organized Crime and others from nearly every country on the planet to set up shop in nearly every city, focusing their efforts to embed themselves in ethnic immigrant communities.
The decision of the Obama administration to provide potentially millions of illegal aliens with employment authorization through the alleged use of "prosecutorial discretion" is actually, in my judgement, a case of prosecutorial deception as I pointed out in a Fox New Latino Op-Ed I wrote for their website that was posted on June 17th, just two days after President Obama addressed the nation from the White House Rose Garden. My article was entitled, "Obama Invokes Prosecutorial Discretion to Circumvent Constitution and Congress."
President Obama's speech contained a number of statements that were deceptive- he claimed that this program would help "young people" and used several other such terms to create the illusion that illegal alien children were to be the beneficiaries of the program. In point of fact, the age cutoff for aliens who were no older than 31 years of age are eligible to participate in this program!
The President stated that an estimated 800,000 aliens would be eligible while the very same day, June 15, 2012, the Pew Hispanic Center said that their research indicated that as many as 1.4 million aliens would be eligible. Several weeks later the Migration Policy Institute reported that they believed that 1.8 million aliens would be potentially eligible to participate. Subsequent news reports pegged that number at 2 million and even more!
The President claimed that he had embarked on that program because "Congress failed to act." He made that claim because several attempts to enact Comprehensive Immigration Reform failed to pass the legislative process as did the DREAM Act. In point of fact, Congress did not fail to act- it did act- it acted to vote down bad legislation! Voting "No" is not indicative of a failure to act- it is indicative of Congress acting as the voice of the citizens of the United States who opposed bad legislation.
What you may not know is that there were be no "face to face" interviews in conjunction with this program and there are virtually no resources to conduct investigations into the claims made in the applications that will be filed by aliens who seek to participate in this program. This is an open invitation to fraud. This would be disturbing at any time. In this era in which we know that terrorist organizations have the United States in their crosshairs, this sort of ill-conceived program generates real anxiety!
This program could be easily gamed by foreign nationals from around the world to make applications in false names to acquire brand new "clean" identities. This is a tactic that has been used in the past with great success by terrorists who were found on prior occasions in the United States including the terrorists who attacked our nation on September 11, 2001.
The administration's key officials routinely boast that our borders are secure, yet there is no shortage of narcotics to be found on street corners around the United States and increasing numbers of Mexican cartel members are showing up in cities across the United States. The administration has admitted that hundred of American cities are now infested by members of the extremely violent Mexican Drug Cartels.
On October 23, 2012 the CBS News With Scott Pelley aired a disturbing news report entitled, "Mexican drug cartels fight turf battles in Chicago." In that report Jack Riley, the Special Agent-in-Charge of the DEA field office that covers Chicago and other cities was interviewed.
Here is an excerpt from his remarks:
Daily turf battles over drugs and distribution, he said, are turning parts of this Midwest city into a Mexican border town.
"One of the hardest jobs I've had in the past couple of years is to convince our law enforcement partners that we need an enforcement mentality as if we're on the border," Riley said.
Miles away, Riley says, Mexican cartels have a significant influence in Chicago's gang violence problem.
"Let's take the gloves off on that," he said. "We know that the majority of the drugs here in Chicago, cartels are responsible for. We know that the majority of the murders are gang related. So it is very clear to see the connection and the role."
As it stands now, at least three major Mexican cartels are battling over control of billions of dollars of marijuana, cocaine and ' increasingly ' heroin in this city. That includes the ultra-violent Zetas and the powerful Sinaloa cartel, run by its shadowy leader Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.
The final sentence of the CBS report should get everyone's attention:
More than ever, Chicago's problem is turning into a Midwest problem. Cartel operations are also spreading to Milwaukee, St. Louis and Detroit.
Finally it should be noted that there are growing numbers of Iranian Shock Troops being stationed in Venezuela and that there are terrorist training camps in the Tri-Border Region of Brazil. As the Iranian nuclear weapons issue festers and as the potential for military intervention increases, it must be understood that Iran would likely seek to launch attacks directly at the United States should the United States or Israel take military action against Iran's nuclear program.
For so many reasons our borders have never been more important, yet few politicians or journalists have the guts, or integrity, to speak candidly about this vulnerability or by the vulnerability posed by the immigration system that lacks integrity.
The first step in problem solving is to identify the problems and then to seek solutions. Ignoring a problem will not solve that problem but provide an opportunity for that problem to become a full-blown crisis!
From day one, I have promised to provide information not likely to be found elsewhere and confront these issues head on. Today's show on TalkBorder.com will do just that!
Michael Cutler, Senior Immigration Editor And Senior Special Agent Of The Ins (ret): I think it is absolutely essential that I explain who I am. I also feel it is important to explain why I have embarked upon a mission to provide insight about our nation's many failures in securing the United States borders. My opinions are based on thirty years of experience with the former Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). Beyond my professional experience, I'd also like you to understand that who I am as a human being is a foundation for my opinions as well. Why is immigration... (more...)
