Ashley owns the character of Alice and watching her is just like Tiffany's – brilliant and beautiful
From Beating Tomboy to Breakfast at Tiffany's
One of the first things I discovered is that Ashley admires my all-time favorite actress, Audrey Hepburn and Ashley's favorite movie is also the same as mine, which is "Breakfast at Tiffany's". If that wasn't enough, I also found out that Ashley Greene was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1987 and is a girl after my own heart, since she is a fan of my favorite college football team, the Florida Gators. I visited The Swamp last year and every Gators game is so emotionally charged with blue and orange filling the stadium of screaming fans. Once I discovered Ashley liked Audrey Hepburn and football, I wanted to find out what else I didn't know about this actress. You always have a picture in your head about what an actress may be like in her normal, everyday life, but Ashley isn't really at all like Alice, which I assumed she would be.
Unlike Alice, Ashley grew up as a bit of a tomboy, taking taekwondo lessons as a young girl and being tough enough to practice with the boys. Ashley may seem sweet and girly as Alice in Twilight, but it turns out she was more like her brother Joe than the girls in her high school when she was growing up. Since Ashley was a tomboy and unsure how she compared to other girls in her early years of high school, her mom decided to enroll her in modeling classes, to help improve her confidence. Since she is only 5'5" tall, Ashley was told she could not be a fashion model, so she gave up on that possibility and her life took another direction.
Ashley was an excellent student and decided to take some commercial and acting classes during her high school experience. She soon discovered that acting was her passion and worked hard to graduate early, in hopes of moving to LA to follow her new dream. Ashley convinced her parents to let her move to LA at 17 years of age and she spent the next three years searching for acting roles. In 2005 and 2006, she was hired for small roles in television programs such as "Punk'd", "Crossing Jordan" and "MADtv".
Ashley's big acting break began when she decided to audition for the role of Bella in Twilight. She soon discovered the role of Bella wasn't for her and was called back to audition for the role of Alice. It was a long road of auditions, but Ashley finally got the part and I'm so glad she did. I really can't imagine anyone else who would be better for this role ' she really is the perfect fit! Though Bella, Edward and Jacob seem to be focused on more than the other characters in the Twilight movies, Alice is definitely a big part of the film as well. Thus, Ashley soon found herself in the spotlight in Hollywood, sharing it with the beautiful and handsome cast of Twilight. She has been in all the movies in this series and will be back in the spotlight next month as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 is released, ending the four-year run of these movies. I am anxiously anticipating the release, as I'm sure are many others, and I hope to see Ashley in other roles to come, once the Twilight series comes to an end.
Aside from acting, Ashley is the face of mark. Cosmetics (see video above) and you can see her on their website. Mark. Cosmetics is a brand of Avon and has very strict policies against animal-testing. They ended all animal testing in 1989 and have won many awards for this from PETA. Since Ashley is the face for the company, she received a "Kind Choices Award" from PETA as well, for encouraging young adults to choose products that are cruelty-free. Ashley uses and endorses items from this company and her favorite products can be discovered under the "explore mark" tab on the site. She looks beautiful modeling the mark. products and I admire her for choosing their brand.
Even though Ashley was told she didn't have a future in modeling, her acting career seems to have opened the modeling doors for her. Before she was the face for mark. Cosmetics, Ashley was the cover model for Stop Staring! Clothing, which is a retro and vintage clothing company. She still wears many outfits from them today, as she did when she made a guest appearance for 5 episodes on the television show Pan Am in 2011-2012, as Amanda Mason.
Ashley is picking up roles here and there, acting in smaller movies in between the Twilight series and some are worth mentioning. If you haven't yet, you should check out Ashley in Skateland (2009), Radio Free Albemuth (2009) and Butter (2011). Ashley plays a variety of characters in different genres and does a convincing job, though I still like her as Alice best. She is a very talented, genuine, beautiful woman and I will definitely be keeping track of her upcoming roles. For the meantime, I am counting down the days until the last Twilight movie hits theaters and I get to see her as Alice on the big screen one last time. Ashley found the perfect fit as Alice and as Holly Golightly said, "I don't want to own anything until I find a place where me and things go together. I'm not sure where that is but I know what it is like. It's like Tiffany's." Ashley owns the character of Alice and watching her is just like Tiffany's ' brilliant and beautiful! Keep up the great work, Ashley!
Kara Werth, Contributing Writer: I can pinpoint the exact moment I knew I wanted to be a writer. I was in Mrs. Bondy's grade six class and we were asked to do a poetry assignment. It was then that I discovered I could write poetry and didn't know how to stop. I also discovered that my dad has been a writer his whole life as well, with notebooks filled with poetry and written word. (more...)
