Russell Simmons on Jivamukti Yoga, activism, and life

Matt Sky sits down with hip hop industry pioneer and Rush Communications founder Russell Simmons to discuss yoga, finding contentment in life, and how to be a force for positive change in the world.

Russell Simmons has had a wildly successful and varied career in hip hop music and culture. Recently, USA Today named him one of the "Top 25 Most Influential People of the Past 25 Years," and PETA recognized him as the "2011 Person of The Year" for his dedication to animal rights. Simmons has been widely praised as a visionary and innovator in hip hop music, film, television, and apparel.

Russell Simmons has been pivotal in launching the careers of a number of today's most respected musicians through Def Jam Recordings, and has managed a variety of successful film and media productions including Def Comedy Jam. In addition, Phat Farm, an apparel brand created by Simmons, has helped in defining contemporary upscale American fashion. He has used his success and notoriety to spearhead a variety of philanthropic efforts rooted in the values of global peace, compassion, and understanding.

Opening up about his early experiences with yoga, starting with teacher Steve Ross, to his current day practice of Jivamukti Yoga, Russell Simmons details his personal journey and how it has guided him throughout his seasoned career and life.
