Illegal Is The New Legal

As goes California, so goes the nation.

In California, a new law went into effect on January 1. This law makes it legal for illegal aliens to get driver's licenses - just one more step in the push to make those who came to the United States illegally into full American citizens.

In California, illegal aliens can practice law. Illegal alien workers can sue their employers for discrimination, even if they have committed identity theft. And for Californian employers, it gets even better under the new law. Driver's licenses issued to those who cannot prove their U.S. citizenship must be modified to show that the person is not a citizen...but the law further stipulates that it is illegal to discriminate against anyone based on the fact that their license includes that modification, which is where it becomes completely insane. After all, there are plenty of professions where the citizenship status of employees is extremely important - I happen to work in one of those professions. And yet, if my company chooses not to hire someone because their driver's license shows that they aren't a U.S. citizen, we could be sued.

To add insult to injury, another law that went into effect on January 1 allows illegal aliens to get taxpayer-subsidized auto insurance, which they must get in order to qualify for the driver's licenses. The glut of new insured drivers is already driving up car insurance premiums across the state.

And to make things even better, there are reports that a lot of the illegal immigrants applying for driver's licenses are failing the written test, in spite of the fact that various "immigrant rights" groups were providing free test prep classes to avoid exactly this situation. I guess now it's only a matter of time before they make the test easier.

It's no secret that California is often a testing ground - what starts here has a tendency to spread to other parts of the nation, so if this law is allowed to stand, it's only a matter of time before other left-leaning states start adopting similar provisions.

Combine this with President Obama's unconstitutional executive action, under which the Executive Branch refuses to deport and grants work permits to illegal aliens. Since Obamacare doesn't apply to illegal aliens, this provides a huge incentive for employers to hire illegal aliens instead of U.S. citizens, as companies won't be penalized for failing to provide health insurance to illegal alien employees.

Apparently, this is how it works in America in the 21st Century. Millions can violate our laws, entering our nation illegally, and our political and legal systems will bend over backwards to provide every accommodation.

But, of course, this is the day and age when, depending on your skin color, the police are to blame if they use force when you attack them or resist arrest - especially if you do so right after that robbery you committed. These days, people illegally block traffic or harass shop owners in the name of "justice," then complain if they get dragged off to jail for blocking traffic or harassing shop owners.

These days, crime is the new justice. Illegal is the new legal. And it is the law-abiding who pay the price.
