Giving President Elect Trump a chance

The growing argument about President Elect Trump's potential for conflict of interest issues needs to focus more on one important reality; security.

American Embassy's around the world have, in many places, become virtual fortresses due to security concerns. Now every building around the world with the Trump name emblazoned on its entrance will become a potential target either for a terrorist attacking a symbol of the United States or protestors also wanting to make a point against one of the Presidents actions. This will both increase the cost of those buildings for local police forces which will have to be paid by someone and increase the danger and/or inconvenience to residents living or working in those buildings. All it will take is one car bomb or other serious incident in front of one of those buildings to cause a major blow to the ability of the Trump organization to license their brand name. It will also cause such buildings to want to change their name. Trump winning the Presidency could very well be loosing his business.

The point is this:

There will most certainly be such an attack on one of the Trump buildings ("100% believe me" as Donald Trump would say). Whereas accusations of conflict of interest can be complicated and take time to quantify or verify, an attack on a Trump building will cause instantaneous reaction.

If I was a resident of one of those buildings, I would be looking to move. If I was an insurance company with a policy on one of those buildings, I would want to dramatically increase the insurance rate.

In any case this is a serious problem waiting to happen - and will happen.
