#Soleimani – Why Didn’t We Kill Him Sooner?

Qasim Soleimani is dead.  A whole host of Democratic Party officials and lawmakers seem grief stricken.

Democrats Grief Stricken

“President Trump just tossed a stick of dynamite into a tinderbox, and he owes the American people an explanation of the strategy and plan to keep safe our troops and embassy personnel, our people and our interest, both here at home and abroad, and our partners throughout the region and beyond,” former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

“We cannot put the lives of American service members, diplomats and others further at risk by engaging in provocative and disproportionate actions,” said U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “Tonight’s airstrike risks provoking further dangerous escalation of violence. America – and the world – cannot afford to have tensions escalate to the point of no return.”

Representative Ilhan Omar, a Muslim lawmaker from Minnesota and a fierce critic of President Trump, also attacked the decision to kill Soleimani. “So, what if Trump wants war, knows this leads to war and needs the distraction? Real question is, will those with congressional authority step in and stop him? I know I will,” she tweeted.

Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren called the American attack a “reckless move” that “increases the likelihood of more deaths and new Middle East conflict.”

Democratic Senator Ed Markey said: “Trump’s apparent assassination of Soleimani is a massive, deliberate, and dangerous escalation of conflict with Iran. The President just put the lives of every person in the region – U.S. service members and civilians – at immediate risk.  We need de-escalation now.”

Who Is Qasim Soleimani?

So, maybe we ought to stop for a moment and consider who it is that we just killed.

Qasim Soleimani was the head of the Quds Force within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).  The Quds Force exists for one purpose. That is to work with and support terrorist groups outside Iran and carry out terrorist attacks worldwide.  It has a close working relationship with Lebanese Hezbollah and a whole host of other Iranian proxy militias.

The Quds Force operates training camps for Lebanese Hezbollah, which has killed hundreds of Americans, in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon.  At these camps the Quds Force has trained over 3000 Hezbollah terrorists.  The Quds Force provides Hezbollah, one of the world’s most dangerous terrorist groups, with somewhere between $100 and $200 million a year in funding.

Quds Force Role In Iraq

During the height of the Iraqi civil war that followed the 2003 American invasion of Iraq, Soleimani and the Quds Force armed and trained Shia militia fighting U.S. forces.  They also provided these militia with a form of improvised explosive device (IED) known as an EFP or explosively formed penetrator.  These EFP’s required sophisticated manufacturing techniques and were otherwise unavailable to the Iraqis.

EFP’s form metal slugs when detonated.  These slugs travel at nearly a mile a second and can cover a distance of 100 meters or more.  This allowed insurgents to place their bombs further from roads and camouflage them against detection.  It also allowed them to penetrate American armored vehicles and kill the soldiers inside them.

The EPF’s supplied in Iraq came in kit form.  Instant bomb, just add plastic explosive.  They were made outside of Iraq and brought in country specifically to be used in attacks on American units.

Soleimani’s Quds Force also provided sniper rifles, mortars and rockets to Shia militia to use to kill American soldiers.  Altogether, the Pentagon has determined that 603 Americans were killed using weapons supplied by Iran.  Many times that many came back from Iraq maimed for life, because of Iran.  How many thousands of Iraqis died because of Iranian support to Iraqi insurgents remains unknown.

Quds Force Role In Afghanistan

The Quds Force has played and continues to play a similar role in Afghanistan.  It works with the Taliban and assists it in killing American soldiers and their Afghan allies.  This assistance comes in the form of financial aid and weapons and training.

Since at least 2006, the Quds Force has provided the Taliban with small arms, ammunition, rocket-propelled grenades, mortars, grenades, rockets, plastic explosives and man-portable air defense systems.

Soleimani’s Recent Role In Iraq & Syria

When anti-Iranian protests broke out in Iraq this Fall (2019) Soleimani and the Quds Force directly intervened to crush dissent and prevent the current Iranian puppet government from being removed.  Protestors were beaten with clubs and attacked with knives.  Snipers on rooftops shot people in the street at random.  In one week, 150 demonstrators were killed.

In Syria, Soleimani and his Quds Force were the lead actors in Bashar al-Assad’s slaughter of his own people when they rose against him.  Under Quds Force direction, Shia groups, including Hezbollah, engaged in the wholesale massacre of Syrian civilians.  These groups were under Soleimani’s direct command.

The abuses committed by the Quds Force and its allies rivaled those of ISIS for depravity.  Civilians were burned to death.  There were mass executions. Rape was systematic, and torture was routine.

Soleimani Was A Monster

This is who Soleimani was.  A monster.  He was soaked in American blood and that of many Middle Eastern nations.  He was a brutal enforcer for an evil, despotic regime.

I only have one question.  Why didn’t we kill him sooner?
