According to Twitter reporting from Jale Avila, an investigative reporter at News 4 San Antonio, the San Antonio City Council passed a resolution on 7 May that labels terms such as “Chinese Virus” and “Kung Fu Virus” as hate speech and states that “all persons are encouraged to report any such “antisemitic, discriminatory or racist incidents to the proper authorities for investigation.”

Interestingly, Avila noted that while Council regular Jack Finger was speaking against the resolution, the microphone “was cut off.” Council member Manny Pelaez speaking in favor of the resolution stated: “hate speech is more dangerous than the virus itself.”
