President Trump sent a letter to House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi Friday, 15 May stating that he was relieving State Department Inspector General “effective thirty days from today.”
Steve Linick is the Inspector General who Trump has removed and Politico reported that career-diplomat Akard would be nominated to replace Linick. was ousted Friday evening, becoming the latest government watchdog to be removed from his post.
A State Department spokesperson confirmed to The Hill and Politico that Ambassador Stephen Akard, a former career Foreign Service officer, will replace Linick, who was appointed to the role in 2013 by then-President Obama.
News of Linick being removed by the Trump administration prompted numerous Twitter posts concerning the action, including a Tweet by Pelosi:
