Speaking Monday at his confirmation hearing Attorney General nominee Merrick Garland said that the United States is “facing a more dangerous period” in regard to domestic terrorism than after the Oklahoma City bombing. He claimed there had been a recent “enormous rise in hate crimes.” He compared the effort to curb the violence with the “battles of the original Justice Department against the Ku Klux Klan.” He then promised to “supervise the prosecution of white supremacists and others who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6″ and to expand the scope of the investigation of what happened that day.
Garland’s comments were the latest in a string of comments by individuals associated with the Biden administration suggesting we are facing a huge threat from white supremacist groups and using the events of January 6th as proof. They are absurd. They would be laughable except for what they portend in terms of the weaponization of our law enforcement and criminal justice agencies against our own citizens.
Somewhere around two hundred and thirty people have been charged with offenses in relation with the incident at the Capitol on January 6th. Virtually all of those have been charged with nothing more serious than trespass and disorderly conduct. Since there are multiple video clips showing Capital Police opening doors and removing barriers to allow people into the building, one suspects charges of trespass or unlawful entry will likely be dismissed. The only firearms charges filed to date appear to be related to individuals who were in possession of handguns in violation of D.C.’s strict firearms control laws. No one has been charged with using or attempting to use a gun during the disturbance.
In short, when the hysteria dissipates, we will likely see several dozen individuals prosecuted, convicted and punished for assaulting police officers and destroying public property. Those individuals will go to jail, as they should. That will be the long and the short of it.
What happened on January 6th was unfortunate and inexcusable. It was not an insurrection. It was not terrorism.
We do, however, have a serious problem with domestic terrorism in this country and have had for some time. It comes not from whatever handfuls of white supremacists there are hanging out in their dingy basements around the country. It comes from the very large, very well-organized Marxist and anarchist groups that have torn this country apart for much of the last year.
On Thursday May 28, 2020, the Third Precinct building of the Minneapolis Police Department, which had been besieged by hundreds of violent rioters for days was abandoned. Police officers fled for their lives before the mob. Entire city blocks went up in flames. The capture of the police building was openly celebrated in the street and then held up nationwide as a symbol of what was to come.

On June 8, 2020, the Seattle Police Department abandoned its East Precinct building in the face of violent protests and attacks. Antifa and BLM members then declared the creation of the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone or CHAZ in a six-block area of Seattle. A new social order based on a “reverse hierarchy of oppression,” was declared. The CHAZ was declared a “police-free zone” that would protect “people of color” from the depredations of the state.
Over its 24-day history, the autonomous zone saw two gun homicides and four additional shooting victims. All the identified victims were black men. Armed gangs took control of the streets. The first murder victim was killed in gang violence. The second was gunned down by the CHAZ “security force.” Only the retaking of the zone by the Seattle police brought the violence to an end.
On July 4th, 2020, hundreds of black men, clad in black and carrying semi-automatic weapons marched on Stone Mountain, Georgia. The leader of the group styled the “Not Fucking Around Coalition” (NFAC), was an individual calling himself “Grandmaster Jay.”
The” Grandmaster”had this to say to his troops as they prepared to march: “If you ain’t never fired your weapon before, this ain’t the time to learn. If shit pop off, get the fuck outta the way and let those of us that trained to do it do our job.”
Speaking to a reporter later in the day Jay added this in response to a question about the group’s goals. “The solution is very simple. We follow the declaration of liberation, declaring every African American descendent of slavery a political prisoner here in the United States who were affected by the Portuguese slave trade and then after that the United States has a choice either carve us a piece of land out here, we will take Texas, and let us do our own thing or don’t stop us when we exit this body here and go somewhere where they will give us our own land to build our own nation.
We don’t bring songs to a gunfight. We’re an eye for eye organization”.
On August 29, 2020, Michael Reinoehl, a member of Antifa, assassinated Aaron Danielson on the street in Portland. Video of the attack shows Reinoehl shooting and killing Danielson, a member of Patriot Prayer, in cold blood. Reinoehl was later tracked down and killed by federal officers when he threatened them with a handgun. Reinoehl had apparently previously provided “security” for Black Lives Matter protests in the Portland area.
On September 13, 2020, two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were shot in the head while sitting in their squad car. Deonte Lee Murray was subsequently arrested and charged with the offense. He was apparently motivated by his hatred of the police. Bystanders who witnessed the shooting offered no assistance to the officers and instead chanted “No justice, No peace.” Protesters later showed up at the hospital where the officers were being treated shouting “We hope they die.”
On September 23, 2020 two police officers were shot in Louisville, Kentucky during a BLM protest. Twenty-six year old Larynzo Johnson was arrested the next day and charged with the shootings. Video of the shooting shows Johnson firing from within a crowd of BLM supporters.
It was later determined that equipment for use in the violent protests during which the police officers were shot was delivered to Louisville in a U-Haul truck. That truck was rented by an organization called the Bail Project, which claimed to raise money to post bail for rioters who were arrested. The Bail Project is headed up by Robin Steinberg, an American lawyer and social justice advocate who previously founded the Bronx Freedom Fund, a similar organization but limited to the New York Metropolitan Area. A number of other wealthy and influential Americans were found to be connected to the Bail Project. Donors to the Bail Project include several left-wing foundations.
The Bail Project is only one of a number of groups funneling financial support to leftist groups engaged in violent activity inside the United States. Beginning in 2016 the Ford Foundation alone pledged to give BLM $100 million.
The handful of anecdotes above are intended to be illustrative only. Over the course of 2020, riots occurred in 47 of 50 U.S. states. Forty-eight of America’s fifty largest cities were engulfed by violence. By September 2020 estimates were that the cost of the destruction caused was already somewhere between $1 and $2 billion. No prior events in American history caused so much damage. Ninety-five percent of the riots catalogued were connected to BLM.
In the first few weeks of the 2020 riots alone over 2000 police officers were injured.
All over this nation armed leftist organizations have proliferated. One of the largest is Redneck Revolt, which sponsors John Brown Gun Clubs to teach its members how to shoot and handle weapons. Redneck Revolt opposes the current democratic form of government. It is against private property and seeks the end of the “patriarchy.” Members of the Puget Sound John Brown Gun Club were identified as being present in the CHAZ, during its short existence.
The election of Joe Biden has changed nothing in this dynamic. The groups that set our cities on fire are still out there, and they are still intent on destroying the existing system. Joe is not their man. They despise him almost as much as they do Donald Trump.
AG nominee Garland knows that as do the other members of the Biden team mouthing nonsense about a threat from armed right wing groups. They don’t really think they are about to be attacked by hordes of Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. They do believe, however, that by inflating that threat they can achieve key political advantages.
Many political opponents of President Biden will refrain from attacking him with full vigor if they know they may be accused of somehow being “insurrectionists.” Those that do continue their attacks on the administration in spite of this threat, may, then find that they are actually being investigated and accused of having “right wing” and “white supremacist” proclivities. In a world where a sitting President can be accused of being a Russian spy for three years on the basis of nothing – it is hard to say anything is impossible..
No. We are not in danger of a white supremacist takeover of the United States. We are witnessing the use of a fictitious threat as a means of gaining political advantage. And, meanwhile, out there in the shadows, the people who burned this nation once are ready to do it all over again.
