Vice President Kamala Harris appears to be ignoring a recent request made by President Joe Biden on Wednesday in which he tapped her to lead the administration’s response to the ongoing immigration crisis at the U.S. – Mexico border.

During a press conference at the White House, Biden explained that he had “asked her,” to “lead our efforts,” in working alongside “the countries that need help stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border,” because she “is the most qualified person to do it.”

The vice president is not doing the border,” Symone Sanders, the Senior Advisor and Chief Spokesperson for Harris reportedly explained to reporters during a flight to Connecticut on Friday.

“The president asked the vice president to take on the diplomatic effort, with Mexico and countries in the northern triangle to address the root causes of migration,” Sanders said, emphasizing that Harris’s role in addressing the root causes of migration from Latin American countries was more diplomatic. “There are many reasons that move these folks to make this dangerous journey.”

Former President Donald Trump has openly criticized the Biden Administration’s handling of the immigration situation at the border, stating that they handed this administration the “most secure border in history.”
