Our Nation Is In Peril – Are We Without Defenders?

“Our Nation is in deep peril. We are in a fight for our survival as a Constitutional Republic like no other time since our founding in 1776. The conflict is between supporters of Socialism and Marxism vs. supporters of Constitutional freedom and liberty.”

Those are the first lines of an open letter just published and reported on in The Federalist. The letter was signed by more than 120 retired U.S. flag rank officers.

The text continues in part:

“The current Administration has launched a full-blown assault on our Constitutional rights in a dictatorial manner, bypassing the Congress, with more than 50 Executive Orders quickly signed, many reversing the previous Administration’s effective policies and regulations. Moreover, population control actions such as excessive lockdowns, school and business closures, and most alarming, censorship of written and verbal expression are all direct assaults on our fundamental rights. We must support and hold accountable politicians who will act to counter Socialism, Marxism, and Progressivism, support our Constitutional Republic, and insist on fiscally responsible governing while focusing on all Americans, especially the middle class, not special interest or extremist groups which are used to divide us into warring factions.

“Under a Democrat Congress and the Current Administration, our Country has taken a hard left turn toward Socialism and a Marxist form of tyrannical government.”

“The survival of our Nation and its cherished freedoms, liberty, and historic values are at stake,” they wrote.

Def-Con News

This unusual step by a group of former senior military officers is particularly striking coming as it does only weeks after a group of French military officers, including some still on active duty, spoke out about similar concerns in that nation. Those concerns were enumerated in the same kind of open letter format.

“The hour is serious, France is in danger, several mortal dangers threaten it. We who, even in retirement, remain, soldiers of France, cannot, in the current circumstances, remain indifferent to the fate of our beautiful country.

Our tricolor flags are not just a piece of cloth, they symbolize the tradition, through the ages, of those who, whatever their skin color or their faith, served France and gave their lives for it. On these flags, we find in gold letters the words “Honor and Fatherland.” However, our honor today lies in the denunciation of the disintegration which strikes our homeland.

– Discrimination which, through a certain anti-racism, is displayed with a single goal: to create on our soil a malaise, even hatred between the communities. Today, some speak of racialism, indigenism, and decolonial theories, but through these terms, it is the racial war that these hateful and fanatic partisans want. They despise our country, its traditions, its culture, and want to see it dissolve by taking away its past and its history. Thus they attack, through statues, ancient military and civilian glories by analyzing words that are centuries old.”

“Also, those who lead our country must imperatively find the courage necessary to eradicate these dangers. To do this, it is often sufficient to apply existing laws without weakness. Do not forget that, like us, a large majority of our fellow citizens are overwhelmed by your dabbling and guilty silences.

As Cardinal Mercier, Primate of Belgium said: “When prudence is everywhere, courage is nowhere…. As we can see, it is no longer time to procrastinate, otherwise, tomorrow the civil war will put an end to this growing chaos, and the deaths, for which you will bear the responsibility, will number in the thousands.”

The original French letter, published in late April, was just echoed in a second letter expressing, if possible, even more, vivid concerns about the possibility of an impending civil war in France if the drift toward Marxism continues.

It is hard to read the text of the letters written in France and not hear the echoes of what is happening right here at home. We are seeing precisely the same kind of full-on Marxist assault on our political, economic, and social structures on our soil. Our statues are toppled. Our history is perverted. Our cities burned.

We are told all day every day that we are an evil, inherently racist nation. America is not a shining city on a hill. It is the source of all that is wrong on this planet. We are a “colonial,” “settler” nation populated primarily by individuals of European descent who have done nothing but bring misery, slavery, and oppression to the globe.

Behind all of this are Marxist groups dedicated to our destruction who have been carefully laying the foundations for this revolution for decades. They know what they are about. They are organized, and now, with a mentally incompetent empty suit in the Oval Office, they smell blood.

As bad as all that is, though, that is not the worst of what is happening. At the heart of the letters in France and in the United States is the recognition that the real problem lies with the lack of an effective response to this. A nation that has withstood multiple attacks by determined adversaries from both within and without in its history now finds itself without defenders.

We are bullied. We are oppressed. We are stripped of our rights and those we elected to represent us and protect us stand idly by. We search in vain for those with the courage and the commitment to stand up, do their jobs and step into the breach.

This is the true crisis. This is the real reason we hear individuals talking openly of civil war. This is why gun sales have gone through the roof and Americans are fleeing cities in record numbers.

Increasingly, Americans fear that the day is approaching when, if no one else will stand up to protect them and preserve the republic, they will have to do it themselves. We can only hope that day never comes.
