The Oath

There has been for some time an intense focus across the nation on “constitutional sheriffs” and the idea that local law enforcement must be prepared to refuse to carry out unlawful orders. Particularly, at the height of the COVID-19 lockdowns, there was a clamor for sheriffs around the country to refuse to obey orders of Governors clearly acting outside the scope of their authority.

With Joe Biden in the White House and his legion of radical ideologues running the federal government, though, the focus must now be increasingly on federal law enforcement and their independent responsibility to ensure that they are acting within the law and subject to the Constitution. They do no hold federal office to guarantee the preservation of the Biden administration. They hold office to protect the Constitution.

The oath federal officers swear is prescribed word for word by the Constitution. It reads:

“I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So, help me, God.”

U.S. Constitution

That oath is short, direct, and unambiguous. It provides no room for misunderstanding or misinterpretation. Federal officers serve to support and defend the Constitution. Period.

Many of the world’s regimes have secret police and security services. Most exist to do one thing, to keep the guy in the presidential palace in his seat. They are empowered to do anything and everything necessary to achieve that goal, and they do so.

We do not have thugs and Gestapo-like instruments of presidential power in this country. We have free men and women who preserve the rule of law, steer by the guide star of the Constitution, and guarantee that all of us, including the men and women in the halls of power, obey the rules.

Or at least we used to.

For much of a year, our cities were torn apart by mass riots organized and staged by powerful Marxist organizations opposing the Trump administration and seeking the destruction of our nation as we know it. These groups organized, communicated, arranged financing, and staged mass actions without any meaningful interference from federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

This was not because these organizations, using commercial communications apps and composed largely of young, poorly trained volunteers were impossible to find or shut down. It was because the violence being perpetrated was politically useful to opponents of Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. Our federal security services looked away and let our cities burn because it was politically expedient.

The violence perpetrated by BLM, Antifa, and their supporters in a host of other Marxist groups continues on a lower level today, but the focus for politicized federal law enforcement has now shifted. Where it was beneficial to leftist political forces for the FBI and the like to ignore BLM, it is now judged extremely useful to have the feds devote their massive resources to attacking the opponents of Biden and his commissars.

Hence the new strategy for combatting “domestic extremists,” a clear catchphrase for anyone who aligns himself with the principles of the MAGA movement and opposes this administration and its policies. The FBI may have found itself completely flummoxed when it came to finding the tens of thousands of people who burned Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, Chicago, New York, and virtually every other major city in the country. It had no trouble whatsoever in standing up a nationwide dragnet for the purposes of arresting hundreds of people who needed to be charged with trespassing in a public building – the U.S. Capitol – on January 6th.

That the leadership of the FBI and other federal agencies is largely corrupt is probably now past dispute. Were it otherwise we would long since have seen indictments for a range of offenses going back to Spygate and the Russia hoax.

But we are no longer talking about the leadership. The unprecedented attack underway on our liberties and the rule of law now means that the key players in defending the Constitution are the rank and file special agents in the FBI and their equivalents in other federal agencies. All over America, these individuals have been given orders in the last several months that they knew were wrong and followed them anyway:

– They saw videotape showing people being allowed to enter the Capitol freely and then went out – hunted them down, arrested them, and charged them with unlawful entry anyway.
– They watched the White House create a fictional, absurd, fantasy threat assessment that labeled white supremacists the number one threat to American security and stayed silent.
– They are watching now as the federal government puts in place a massive program to hunt down, identify and eliminate from its ranks all those who hold beliefs contrary to the radical, Marxist orthodoxy that now holds sway.

In the near future, these same federal officers will find themselves shoved much more into the forefront. The clear intent of the new strategy on domestic extremism recently trotted out by Joe Biden’s regime is to focus every aspect of federal power on disarming, arresting, and silencing political opponents. Individuals challenging the Biden administration are going to be rounded up, arrested, prosecuted, and almost certainly imprisoned.

On the cutting edge of this are going to be ‘Americans wearing badges‘ who swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. For each and every one of them, there is going to come a moment of truth. They are going to have to decide if they are simply going to obey orders, keep their heads down, and shuffle along on the road to totalitarianism or if they are going to stand up, refuse and remind themselves and their superiors to whom and what they swore that oath.
