Reality-star, and animal rights activist Simone Reyes, joins the program to discuss the fair treatment of animals, her vegan lifestyle, and the exciting job of working as Executive Assistant to Russell Simmons. Her latest work can be seen on her blog, Musings from an Activist Chick
. She also writes for Hello Giggles
, One Green Planet
, and Global Grind
. Despite working in what must be a very demanding field of work, Simone Reyes carries herself compassionately, and dedicated to the causes she cares about.
Simone's path to becoming Russell Simmons's executive assistant was anything but typical. In fact, the New York City native was fresh out of high school when she was taken under Russell's wing.
In those early days of working as a receptionist at Def Jam Records, Simone appeared in many of the Beastie Boys' music videos. She even sang backup for the group's hit "No Sleep Till Brooklyn." Simone continued her entertainment industry forays by appearing with Russell in a commercial for Panasonic's D-snap and on the Showtime series The L Word.
Today, Simone boasts the coveted title of being Russell's "longest female relationship." And Russell affectionately refers to her as "my boss." An avid animal rights activist and rescuer, Simone boldly shed her clothes for PETA's "Rather Go Naked" demonstrations. She has also found time to author two books on astrology: Astrology for Cats and Astrology for Dogs. Simone literally allows the stars to be her guide; she never leaves the house without consulting her planetary charts.
When this devout vegan is not working hard as an activist, she's honing her pole-dancing skills in preparation for her burlesque show debut!
Simone shares her homes in New York City and California with two special needs dogs, Stevie and Cassidy, the loves of her life.
